The management of the ‘Bilisim Vadisi’ has expressed its desire to establish a low-density technology base consisting of buildings that do not exceed two floors, as it has experienced the problems in the current campus during the pandemic process. In fact, this request made us very happy. Because our understanding of architecture aims to strengthen the relationship of sustainable and healthy business spaces with the ground, as in residential areas.
In this process, perhaps the greatest contribution of the pandemic to humanity was that people questioned the physical environment they created. In this context, we went to the site together with the employer and teams for the project area inspection and observations were made. The project area extends in the east-west direction along the intercity highway. In the south direction, it has a long thin form leaning its back against a forest that we can call maquis. To the west of the town of Gülbahce in Urla, there is mostly maquis vegetation. In a part of this area, agricultural activities are carried out, albeit to a lesser extent, and there are olive trees. In order to preserve the existing trees as much as possible, tree surveys have been carried out in the area.
Technopolises are usually planned with the logic of industrial estates, as they are in our country, and the mass formation is formed from the same rational forms. The land can be leveled somehow. Because with modern tools and equipment, modern man has the power to bring down every hill and dig every road.
In this design, efforts have been made to create building islands attached to the main road axis in harmony with the topography without rejecting it, preserving the existing trees as much as possible. In these islands, different geometric forms that give the feeling of spontaneous formation have been adopted, taking into account the total values of the area. The building masses and forms within the islands are designed with a planning approach that can be positioned and shaped according to the needs, provided that the density limitation is adhered to. Thus, dynamic implementation principles and criteria that also take into account user participation have been digitized with the urban design guide.
